REVIEW: TANGO (from Phases Of Vol. I)

Overall Impression:
The first volume in Jess Lamarre’s passion project, Phases Of, is set to drop on July 17th – and if Tango is any indication of the album’s content and quality – it’s going to be INCREDIBLE.  Vocally intimate and musically immersive, Tango brings together relatable lyricism and a relaxed Urban Pop/R&B vibe – expertly underscored by dynamically engaging bass tones and topped by Jess’ ethereal vocal harmonies.

Strongest Point(s):
The vocals on this track are absolutely stellar!  The vocal control and attention to detail makes for a very deeply engaging sound and perfectly pairs with the song’s well-written and emotional lyrics.  Wonderful instrumental work, with the slight lo-fi vibes in the string loop giving extra gravity to that hard-hitting, but easy-going glitched out bass line. Love the percussion as well.  The detail of the mix serves to perfectly highlight the rhythmic complexities of the track while giving Jess’ voice all the space it needs to fill out the sound – resulting in a very satisfying, deeply immersive listening experience!

Target Audience Appeal:
Modern listeners will find Jess Lamarre’s sound to be a breath of fresh air, open and ethereal while remaining fully within the realm of contemporary R&B and Pop – and the lyrical content and expert construction on display in Tango is more than enough to inspire a following!  Lyrically vulnerable and musically pristine, Jess Lamarre’s Tango is as perfect for audiophiles as it is for casual listeners – offering a little something for everyone!  – Jon W.

Artist target suggestions:
Aaliyah, Beyonce, Solange, Amerie, Ariana Grande, Erykah Badu, Dua Lipa, Iggy Azalea, Lizzo, Jenifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Sia, Katy Perry
